THE TIME ACT

TIME Act — Time Incentive for a Modern Employer

A Four-Day Weekend, Every Week — Without Losing a Dollar of Pay

The old 5-day, 40-hour workweek isn't a law of nature — it's a hundred-year-old standard that hasn't kept pace with how work actually gets done today.

The largest workplace study ever conducted — nearly 3,000 employees across 141 companies in six countries — found that cutting the workweek to 36 hours with no pay cut improved workers' health and job satisfaction without hurting business performance. Iceland ran the same experiment at a national scale: productivity held steady or improved, while worker wellbeing improved dramatically.

That's not a penalty for employers. That's an opportunity, if the state gives them a reason to take it.

Reive's proposal is simple: give employers a flat, non-refundable tax credit for every employee they move to a fixed 3-day, 36-hour workweek — three consecutive 12-hour shifts, followed by one consistent 4-day weekend, every week, at full pay. No mandate. No employer forced to participate. Just an incentive for businesses ready to try something different, with real protections built in: employees keep overtime pay if they're called in on a day off, and every participating employee signs off each year confirming their hours, pay, and schedule haven't been quietly rolled back.

Every worker deserves a real life outside of work. This gives employers a reason to help build one — without costing anyone a dollar of their paycheck.
